My Hiatus is Over

Here I am again apologizing for extended lengths of time between blog entries.  I would like to begin by saying that I quit Portfolio123.  It has nothing to do with the website or service.  I still think it is great and hope to get back to in the future.  But at present it is not meeting my needs.  I'm primarily looking for a top-down approach for designing my holdings based on asset classes.  And, as the United States continues to bury itself in its fiscal problems, I have a need to account for the Canadian dollar exchange rate.  There is no point in making a profit in U.S. dollars and losing my shirt when I convert to my home currency.

How did my trading system work out?  As it turned out I fully hedged my system during the greatest bull market in history.  My system performance was mediocre and underperformed the general market.  Then I lost money on the Canadian dollar exchange as the Canadian dollar rose in tandem with the stock market.

For the near future, this blog is going to document my thoughts on the development of an ETF-based asset allocation system.  My intent is to develop a system which is fairly conservative but profitable.  It may be based on Canadian ETFs, although the logic will equally apply to U.S. based ETFs.  I hope my readers do not find this too boring!  The big challenge is going to be finding S/W tools to do what I want to do.

Check back soon as I make my first entries with my new initiative.

Hi Osmond - I'm not looking to do day-trading. I'm interested in (asset class) ETF longer term investments. But feel free to provide a description of your product here.
